Warriors Looking To Improve in 2013

The Whitby Junior C Warriors had an impressive run in the 2012 season, falling a single game short of eliminating the Clarington Shamrox in the best of five second round playoff series.  But the Shamrox showed why they were at the time, the two time defending champions and they went on to capture their third consecutive Jim Meredith trophy.

In looking back it did not end the way the Warriors had hoped, but if you told them at the start of the year, they would be in a one game do or die to go to the final four; they likley would have jumped at the opportunity.

So in 2013, the team will be looking to capitalize on that run.  However, they will have to do it with a number of new faces.  The team lost six players due to age (Paul Gilligan, Jason Heickert, Nathaniel Kerstens,  Dylan Hobbs, Dylan Johnston, and Eric Jenkins), and four others that have moved up to other Junior ranks Jordi Jones Smith, Rylee McKinnon – Junior A, and Mitch Robertson, Chris Martin – Junior B.

Tryouts are complete and there are still a few decisions to be made.  Once done, the roster will be posted right here on the Warriors site.

The team open up the season with three straight games on the road.  First up they face their Durham rivals the Clarington Shamrox on Friday May 10, then they go on to Kingston for a date with the Kings 0n Thursday May 16.  They will be right back at it the next night May 17  when they travel to Peterborough to play the Lakers.  All three games are 8pm starts.

The 2013 Home Opener will be Thursday May 30th when the Warriors face the Peterborough Lakers at Iroquois Park.  Game time is 8pm.
