Saturday night saw the Innisfil Wolfpack howl into town looking for its first win of the year against The Whitby Warriors. The last time these two teams met, Whitby held the Wolfpack to one goal, taking the game 11-1.

Saturday’s game seemed no different with Warriors Capitan, Cody Simpson kicking off the games scoring just 24 seconds into the first period. James Malloy scored an unassisted goal just 3 minutes later. Mitch Robertson scored on the Warriors first power play of the night and scored his second of the game one minute later. Colin Amodeo rounded out the scoring with a laser right through Ian Walters. With 5 goals in the first 10 minutes of the game, Innisfil switched up the goalies and brought in Dakota Dhori to try and stay in the game.

The second period started off almost identical with Cody Simpson scoring on the power play just 26 seconds into the period. McNein Hewitt scored 2 minutes later on the Warriors third power play of the game and second of the period. Each of the Warriors took turns finding the back of the net with 8 goals in the second period from 7 different players. Whitby’s 2 assistant captains Paul Gilligan and Matt Hossack scored the Warriors 2 shorthanded goals of the night. After another goalie change which saw Ian Walters back in net, frustration seemed to get to Innisfil’s Danny Lee with a game ejection near the 5 minute mark. After two periods of play, the Warriors lead the Wolfpack 13-0.

At 12:59 of the third period Innisfil scored their first of two goals with a blooper from Colin Mawdsley over the shoulder of Jason Weber. It also saw Nate Kerstens score 2 goals, and Mitch Robertson, Cody Simpson and James Malloy each score their third goal of the game. The Warriors win their second contest against the Wolfpack 18-2.

Whitby will now go on the road to play the Peterborough Lakers for the second time in as many weeks, before returning home to take on Mimico next Saturday. THat game will be at the Peel Park outdoor bowl in the first outdoor game of the season. Game time is 7pm.
