Warriors Split Weekend, Take Two of Three Road Games

Over the June 3-5 weekend the Junior C Warriors hit a critical part of their schedule.  Playing in Clarington on Friday night and in Peterborough on Saturday night, there was a sense of urgency as these two teams were the ones Whitby were chasing in the standings. Going into the weekend Peterborough was undefeated and Clarington’s only loss was at the hands of the Lakers.

On Friday night, the Shamrox and Warriors were both faced with short line-ups due to other commitments from many players.  A “battle of Durham” saw the Shamrox come out on top with a 9-6 victory, distancing themselves from Whitby by another 2 points.  Garrett Williams led the way for Clarington with 3 goals and 3 assists, with Andy Shure netting 2 goals.  Singles went to Dylan Pitchforth, Ben Pitchforth, Trevor Cyr and Spencer Cole.  for the Warriors, Brett Kingston and Cody Simpson each scored 3 goals.  Jason Weber took the loss in net.

Saturday night, Whitby travelled up the 115 highway to face the undefeated Peterborough Lakers at the Memorial Center.  It was a tale of two teams as the Warriors played a much different game in every aspect.  With revenge on their minds (a 14-6 embarrassment 1 week earlier), the Warriors scored 4 goals in the third period en route to a close 4-3 win.  McNein Hewitt scored three times and added an assist.  The single goal went to Nathaniel Kerstens.  Kyle Ford got the win in net.

Playing 3 road games in a week was a tough go, but Whitby will now enjoy a bit of a break and return home to face the Innisfil Wolfpack on Saturday June 11 at Iroquois Park Arena.  Game time is 7pm.
