Two teams came into Saturday night’s Junior “C” contest undefeated.  One of them made a very bold statement and remained undefeated.  The Peterborough Lakers sent a message that they are a team to be reckoned with, handing the Whitby Warriors their first loss of the season by a resounding 14-6 score.

The visitors pounced early as Brandon Johnson scored his first of three goals on the night, only 41 seconds into the game.  That was followed by three more goals in the first period, chasing Whitby starter Jason Weber from his net.

The second period opened up as a carbon copy of the first, with Andrei Mancea scoring at the exact same 41 second mark and the Lakers held a 5-0 advantage.  The Warriors eventually found the back of the net with Jason Hecikert scoring one of his two on the night, and the Warriors battled back at one point only trailing 6-4 midway through the second period.  However, the Lakers would capitalize on some untimely mistakes and rattle off four more goals to end the second period holding a 10-4 lead.

The Lakers opened the third scoring on a delayed penalty call to the Warriors as Mancea scored once again only 29 seconds into the period.   McNein Hewitt and Colin Amodeo would score for Whitby, but, that was not enough, as Peterborough added three more of their own to round out the scoring.

The Warriors will now go on a three game road swing visiting Mimico on Monday night, Clarington this coming Friday night, and they will visit the same Lakers next Saturday night June 4th.
